Upcoming Pilot Jobs

The world aviation industry, particularly in Asia is experiencing growth unlike anything even remotely seen in history. Asia’s growing economy has increased the demand for air-travel to a new level. Boeing and Airbus currently have more aircraft orders than either have ever had. Boeing and Airbus both expect orders of 30,000 to 40,000 aircraft for the next 15 to 20 years. Every airline in India is planning to expand their fleet, and many new airlines are starting up to meet the growing demand for air travel.

Over the next 20 years, it is estimated there will be a need for 609,000 maintenance technicians, and 558,000 pilots. This is very good news for all people wishing to make a career in the aviation industry. The world-wide breakdown of pilots required per region is:

• Asia/Pacific
 o 226,000
• USA & Europe
 o 95,000
 • Middle East
o 60,000
• Latin America
 o 47,000
 • Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS)
o 17,000
• Africa
 o 18,000
 • TOTAL
o 558,000

Asia clearly leads the world in aviation growth and the number of pilots required. Asia has experienced the largest economic growth, a growing middle class, and as a result has a large demand for aircraft and pilots. However, all parts of the world are expected to have large growth in the aviation sector.

There are a number of ways to accomplish a flying career. The first step for all pilots is to complete their licenses: private, and commercial. Next will be the multi-engine and instrument ratings. These ratings are essential for all charter, corporate, or airline jobs. Some candidates do an instructor’s rating. This is an excellent way to get into the industry and build hours. It also gives the satisfaction of giving back to the industry by training pilots.

Some pilots go on to corporate work, such as flying Lear jets or Gulf stream. Some go on to the airlines to fly Boeings or Airbuses. A few make careers out of flight instructing, and eventually work with the government or become flight test examiners. Whatever your goals are, there are many paths to achieve them, and many career opportunities available. There has never been a better time to become a pilot
